Lung Cancer Screening: In an important step forward in the fight against cancer, researchers with the National Cancer Institute found that screening with a low dose of spiral CT scan has the potential to lung cancer deaths, the WSJ reports. Lung cancer is the number one cancer killer, and no screening test has proven effective. Researchers recommend widespread screening stopped short, citing the need to further study the potential disadvantages. The scans come up with a dose of radiation and several hundred dollars could cost per piece.

Caffeinated Alcohol beverages: Michigan has forbidden caffeinated alcoholic beverages, in response to the growing public concern about the safety of the drinks, the WSJ reports.The step from the Michigan Liquor control Commission follows a series of incidents in the past few weeks in which students in States including Washington and New Jersey were hospitalized after drinking four Loko, a fast-growing brand. different schools, including the University of Rhode Island and New Jersey Ramapo College, recently banned such drinks of the campus, but Michigan appears to be the first State.

High risk groups:Fewer people than expected have signed up for the so-called high risk pools in command of the federal health care law to cover people with pre-existing conditions, the New York Times reports. after two or three months of operation in most States, the plans have registered only 8,011 people, the paper says, citing figures from the Department of Health and Human Services.
