doctorAARP endorsed health care reform and the health insurance plans as a result of the now changing. AARP recently sent an email to employees say it will be increasing premiums health insurance 8 to 13 percent because of rising medical costs and reform.

AARP is also restructuring plans now to prevent the 40% tax on Cadillac plans in 2018 reports the Associated Press.Cadillac plans are high cost plans that additional benefits than usually plans offer.

Jennifer Hodges, AARP’s Director of compensation and benefits wrote, “most plan co-pays and own risks have changed. changes in the value plan were required not only from the point of view of cost control, but also to ensure that the AARP plans below the threshold for high cost group plans under health care reform.”

But the Director of Legislative Affairs David Certner said that AARP plans are below the thresholds for the tax, but that they want to remain under the threshold. And he said: “the effect of AARP workers is not a factor at all in our policy, which focuses on the implications for our membership and all older Americans.”

Now AARP covers 4,500 people who are employees, dependents and retirees — making a wonder why AARP their employees would not consider when making policy decisions such as most companies.

Not only will AARP workers have higher premiums, they will also be paying higher deductibles and copayments eight years for the Cadillac plan tax from power.
