Health care reform & Adult Children up to Age 26

Answers to health reform law is a change that would, in many cases allow a child to stay at the superior Kaiser Permanent insurance plan until 26 years. The age threshold and eligibility requirements vary, depending on if the child is applying or already covered on an individual or family plan or a group of the European Union. For a family with 2 or more children, this change may result in added savings.

Individual and family plans
o If the child is not a member of the Kaiser Permanente already then dependent age threshold is 23, means that adult children can be added to the parents ‘ family plan till 23 years of age, as long as they are full time students at an accredited college or University. full time status is determined by the educational institution. Children who are not entitled to the family plan can apply separately for their own level.
o If the child is already covered as a dependent, can then they remain at the parent level until they turn on 26.The child does not have a student or live with the parent, but they must be unmarried. for families with 2 or more children on the same level, this will be an added bonus, as there are no extra premium for the additional children.
o If the child was previously removed (because they turned 23 has lost full time college status, etc.), they are not eligible to be re-added.However, they may use for their own separate individual level.

Group plans
o are children under the age of 26 years old, to be eligible for the new certificate enrollment as a child of their parent level.Dependent is not required to be a student, but must be unmarried. Also, they need not to live with a parent; they can even live outside the area of Kaiser service, but when receiving services outside the service area, they will only have an emergency and urgent care coverage.
o children, which were previously removed from the group level (because they turned 23 or ceased to become a full time student) must wait until the policy renewal/open enrollment to enroll. they must be unmarried and reside in a Kaiser Permanente service region.
o are children age 23 through 25, which was not previously enrolled in the group plan eligible to sign up for renewal. they must be unmarried and reside in a Kaiser Permanente service region.
